Uplands is a beautiful and premier residential neighbourhood in Port Alberni. It has one of the highest elevations in the city, at around 250 feet above sea level, giving the area the best views of the Alberni Inlet and the central part of the city. It is a highly sought-after location, and large homes historically made it popular with professionals such as doctors, as West Coast General Hospital is just a few minutes away by vehicle. The area has expanded significantly to include more modern, high-quality suburban homes. The Log Train Trail passes through beaver ponds and is a serene place of respite right in the heart of the neighbourhood. These ponds also contain ducks and nearby foliage like beautiful yellow irises. This is a relatively short trail of a few kilometres that offers a unique change of scenery.
On the other hand, the Log Train Trail has many access points along its 20+ km stretch, allowing users to choose how long they want to make their hike and what parts to focus on. The far end of the trail leads through the countryside, giving the trail a large breadth of scenic variety. It is one of the most well-known trails in Port Alberni and is very popular among hikers and mountain bikers. Each of these trails is a short walk from most homes in the area.
Uplands is a residential area, but it is near central Alberni’s many shopping amenities. This is a one-stop shop for all your errands: doctor appointments, grabbing a coffee, grocery shopping, picking up your prescriptions, jewelry repair, hair salon appointments, putting gas in the car, and picking up some dinner on the way home. There is even more to offer, as new stores are popping up along Tenth Avenue and Redford Street each year.
